Our Classes

11 multi-age classrooms serving 3K through 5th grade

Multi-Age Classrooms

The Neighborhood School is organized into 11 multi-age classrooms, where children of different ages learn side by side. This structure is intentional: younger students benefit from the modeling and mentorship of older peers, while older students deepen their own understanding through teaching and collaboration.

Our Classroom Structure

3K (1 class)

Our youngest learners begin their TNS journey in a nurturing, play-based environment. The 3K classroom focuses on social-emotional development, early literacy, and exploration through play.

Pre-K (1 class)

Pre-K students build on their 3K experience with more structured exploration, early math and literacy skills, and rich social interactions.

Kindergarten / 1st Grade (3 classes)

Our K/1 classrooms bring together kindergarteners and first graders for a dynamic learning experience. Students engage in project-based learning, develop reading and writing skills, and build a strong mathematical foundation.

2nd / 3rd Grade (3 classes)

In the 2/3 classrooms, students take on more complex projects, deepen their reading and writing, and begin to explore social studies and science through in-depth investigations.

4th / 5th Grade (3 classes)

Our oldest students lead the school community. In 4/5 classrooms, students engage in rigorous academic work, take on leadership roles, and prepare for the transition to middle school.

Full-Inclusion Model

The Neighborhood School is a full-inclusion school. We believe every child deserves access to a rich, supportive learning environment. Our school features:

  • Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classes -- General education and special education teachers working together in the same classroom
  • Occupational Therapy (OT) -- Supporting fine motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living skills
  • Speech Therapy -- Helping students with communication and language development
  • Counseling -- Social-emotional support for students and families
  • Physical Therapy (PT) -- Supporting gross motor development and physical well-being

Our support services are integrated into the school day so that students receive help in their classrooms and community, not in isolation.
